Jared, a small-town kid from Cortland, Nebraska was raised learning how to grow vegetables under his mother and grandmother’s wings and it was something he incorporated into adulthood. Each year he produces a garden full of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, herbs, and other crops of interest. In the early winter of 2020, he was researching how to bring his garden inside when he came across a thing called “microgreens”. These tiny vegetables were new to him and he was quick to introduce the tiny plants to his girlfriend, Robin. She, being the health-conscious one, quickly became very intrigued by how these mini leaves might be able to improve their overall health and help them achieve their fitness goals.
Robin, from Brantford, Ontario, and always concerned with maintaining a nutritious diet, was influenced by her grandparents, mother, father, and aunts. From the age of ten, she was fascinated by the benefits that vegetables and other foods could have in healing the body and for her, anything green was mother nature’s medicine.
Soon, with this new shared interest, the two studied the process of growing and raising microgreens. It all started in a small corner of their basement which was soon remodeled into a growing house.
The more they learned about the different varieties of microgreens and their amazing health benefits, the more they wanted to add to their selection. These little vegetables quickly became a part of their daily routine (planting, watering, and harvesting them) as well as their everyday meals.
They first began sharing them with family and neighbors, but it quickly became apparent that there was a market for these tasty and nutritious mini-things! Friends were using them in all sorts of dishes such as pasta, salads, eggs, wraps, and even muffins! The more people experimented and became educated on the many health benefits of these microgreens, the more Jared and Robin’s passion grew. This hobby swiftly turned into what is now Mini Green Things.
Jared and Robin strive to spread the green goodness to Nebraska communities in hopes of adding nutritional value to every meal.
